Live Commentary
I hope you have enjoyed our coverage for this game. We'll look forward to your company again when the second Test match starts on the 6th of this month. Till then, it's me, Shirshendu Roy wishing you all the luck. Adios...
Few souvenirs being given away. AB de Villiers, Neil Mckenzie, Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith are the ones who get them. AB gets one for having played 50 Test matches for his country, Neil gets one for having completed 50 catches, Kallis ofcourse for joining the elite 10,000 club and Smith gets it for having played 75 Tests, scoring 6000 runs and taking 100 catches. Three of the these feats happened back in Australia and they're being rewarded infront of their home crowd. Nice lil' gesture indeed.
Mitchell Johnson is the Man of the Match
Remember Australia came into this series as the under-dogs, they often aren't used to listening to this. They came here facing a lot of criticism about their form for quite sometime now, but the performance they have put up in this Test match is nothing less than incredible. This is an Australian side which is less on experience, Ponting has half the number of caps that his whole side has so far. That goes to tell you about this young side, it's into a transition period after the stalwarts walked out, this is certainly going to be a big win first-up.
What a fitting end really, Johnson has been the best performer of the lot in this match and he really deserved to put the finishing touch. He scored runs, picked up wickets and on both the occasions enabled his side to dismiss South Africa under 300.
Ricky Ponting and his boys go one up in the away series.
Johnson to Steyn, out Bowled!! And there's the victory, the Australians have won! Speared in from wide of the crease and Steyn has a lil' smart thing to attempt, tries to hoick one over the grandstand, no contact made and the stumps are rattled, end of Steyn and end of South Africa's fight, Johnson provides the finishing touch, he indeed deserved to do so! Steyn b Johnson 6(12)
119.2 Johnson to Steyn, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
119.1 Johnson to Steyn, 2 runs, pitched up and Steyn drives it down the ground towards long on for a couple, good running between the wickets
Starts from round the wicket only...
Johnson will share the attack
Makhaya Ntini is the last man in
Siddle to Harris, out Caught by Katich at forward short leg!! And that's number nine, banged in short on the middle and leg, Harris goes back to defend, closes the face of the bat in order to do so, turns it straight into the hands of the bat-pad fielder, Harris is gone, Siddle strikes, only one more wicket for an Australian win! Harris c Katich b Siddle 8(35)
118.6 Siddle to Harris, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
118.5 Siddle to Harris, no run, way outside off and Harris isn't interested
118.4 Siddle to Harris, no run, back of a length delivery on the middle and leg, Harris defends it watchfully off the backfoot
It won't be long when the floodlights in the ground will be switched on, Harris would want to play for bad light here, he has to guide Steyn all through. This is going to be interesting.
2 slips, leg gully and a square leg in place...
118.3 Siddle to Harris, no run, outside off and left alone to the keeper
118.2 Siddle to Harris, no run, back of a length delivery on the stumps, Harris defends it
118.1 Siddle to Harris, no run, bouncer going down the leg side, Harris tries to work it away off the waist, lil' deflection and all go up in an appeal for a caught behind, turned down by umpire Billy Bowden, that looked like brushing the shirt
Siddle will start off after Tea...
Welcome back
Final session of the day, only two wickets remaining, Australia are all set to register a thumping win on this tour. Dark clouds are hovering around the stadium, there's a forecast for rain too and the Australians wouldn't like to risk their chances. Mop it up asap is the word buzzing around in their camp. The Proteas would want to hang in for as long as they can.
That's Tea on Day 5

116.6 Hilfenhaus to Harris, no run, dropped in short, Harris ducks underneath it

116.1 Hilfenhaus to Steyn, no run, well-directed bouncer, Steyn arches back to avoid it
115.6 Johnson to Steyn, 1 run, back of a length delivery on the middle and leg, Steyn shuffles across and works it away wide of mid wicket for a single, retains the strike with that run
115.5 Johnson to Steyn, no run, fired in outside off, Steyn tries to squirt it out and misses it completely, that wasn't too far away from the outside edge on that occasion, close shave
115.4 Johnson to Harris, 1 run, pitched up wide outside off, pushed wide of cover for a single
115.3 Johnson to Harris, no run, defended from the crease
115.2 Johnson to Harris, no run, back of a length this time, defended watchfully
115.1 Johnson to Harris, no run, banged in short on the middle and leg, some extra bit of bounce for Johnson, Harris goes on the backfoot to defend, inside edges it just wide of short leg
Dale Steyn now
Hilfenhaus to Boucher, out Bowled!! Beauty! Length ball on the off and jabs back into the right hander sharply, Boucher gets half-forward to drive through the covers, half-hearted attempt and he perhaps dragged it back onto the stumps, not sure whether there was an inside edge on that, Hilfenhaus strikes gold, Boucher is gone, only two more to win this match for Australia! Boucher b Hilfenhaus 24(105) [4s-1]
